PMA Ph.D. Student Jessie Taieun Yoon's Essay Selected as Runner-up Winner for Biddy Martin Graduate Prize in LGBT Studies

PMA Ph.D. student Jessie Taieun Yoon was selected as a runner-up winner for Biddy Martin graduate prize for best essay in LGBT Studies. Yoon's essay "Disaffected Fatigue of Asian Camp and its Affective Dissonance" analyzes artist Sin Wai Kin's drag performance <Sandwich> against the backdrop of camp theory and mainstream drag's pervasive whiteness, in which Sin's use of disaffection is read as a form of Asian camp that takes advantage of the affective dissonance between the audience and the performer. This essay was written as a final paper for Professor Nick Salvato's PMA 6711 course Camp: Aesthetics and Politics.

The essay abstract will appear here.
